My husband and I are going on a date to the casino today (my second time this year). Wish me luck.

The first time I brought home $1,200 on a $1.00 slot machine.
Any suggestions for this time? Should I try blackjack? Roulette wheel?

maybe I'll just stick with slots, they seem easier.

Blackjack is supposed to have the best payout, and if you follow the rules you have a reasonable chance to do OK. But it requires more work than the random slot machines or roulette wheel.

Having lived in Nevada several years, it is well known that some slots are much looser than others. Typically the slots by the enterance pay a slight bit more than the ones way back inside the casino. Don't use slots at grocery stores (assuming you are hitting Vegas where slots are everywhere) hotel lobbys or resturants as these could be 30% tighter than big casino slots.

Don't expect to win money, just enjoy yourself.

    Pierced Angel,

GOOD LUCK at the casino. I love playing the slots, haven't tried blackjack yet(well, not for money). I have to ask you though, how much money did you put in the slot machine to have the opportunity to win $1200?

    Pierced Angel,

I still do play roulette sometimes. The house only has a margin of 2.7% in the UK, which isn't bad at all. Note though that UK rules only allow for a single zero and 36 numbers, as you get odds paid of 36 - 1 on a 37 section roulette wheel that equals 2.7% casino advantage.

Now, if you play in the USA or Monte Carlo, you will see that the wheel also has a double zero. That means paid odds of 36 -1 on 38 sections, that equals a casino advantage of 5.27%. At this point you are only playing for fun, it is highly unlikely that you can win unless you just play for a few minutes and stop if you win.

Blackjack is OK, if you are new to the game I suggest that you dont sit at the end of the table. Your bet will be just before the croupiers deal, and can affect the winnings of the players to one side of you.

Slots are totally hopeless. Forget it.

    Tracy,

I went in with $20 and hadn't even used most of it when I won. I was actually working on a winery article in a touristy area that day and decided to just "run" in and see what it was like. I first told my hubby that I won $200 and he took me out to a nice dinner with the kids and after a beer or two I showed him the rest.

We stayed a couple extra days and had a fun vacation.
I don't expect to win again, but it was fun for my first time!

    Best of luck Anne!

You know there is a foolproof way of always coming out a winner at blackjack, but it requires large cash reserves, and the outcome of trying it is usually manhandling by large guys in tuxedos. ("Tell me! Tell me!" I hear you cry.)

Most importantly, have a great time.
