Me and my brother was talking about 'the society' 'the watchtower' in general, and my brother said that he sometimes felt guilty acceping gifts from his 'worldly' friends, associates, etc. (He's not baptized, neither am I). I always felt guilty eating birthday cake, standing up for the flag. We were both agreeing that this inner guilt always stayed in you, even after you leave the organization. Its crazy. Why wont the guilty feeling go away?
Do you feel guilty accepting gifts (on both birthdays, holidays and non holidays?)

Broken Promises
I've been out for over 10 years now, and I feel no guilt at all.
If it helps you any, you can send any presents you receive to me. I'll happily accept them!

NOT ANY MORE ! You just need more practice Start SENDING us gifts and after a while it will feel really normal when someone gives you one . I'll pm my address right away .
Seriously I did feel that way only when I was an active JW . Since then after giving to others for a couple of yrs . it is now getting easier to accept gifts . Last yr I think was my first time really being excited to open a wrapped Christmas gift for myself.

People like to give gifts because it is a normal showing of love and friendship. Yes, though, I too sometimes feel like it is too much, and I don't deserve it. I had a big SURPRISE and I mean big surprise party a few weeks ago for my bday. I got all kinds of neat stuff and it was really lovely and sweet and thoughful. I am working on my thank you cards now. I do love to give gifts. One good website to find really cool gifts is etsy.com

I remember seeing this episode of some Michael Jackson special when Elizabeth Taylor threw him a surprise christmas party. He said he cried in the bathroom because he felt gulity for celebrating Christmas. I'm like, wow, a lot of psycological damage there.
