Yes in most early publications. "The truth shall make you free" from 1943 also showed the snake with legs, more like a lizard standing on its back legs.

I think it was thought that the Serpent Snake LOL I like SNAKE! ..... had legs and the curse was you will crawl on your belly.. Don't quote me but I think Old Pubs. of the WTS maybe Babylon the Great has Fallen mentioned this belief.
