The first of three posts on the accuracy of the New Testament. Part one deals with the problem of New Testament variants. Parts two and three address Bart Erhman's "Top Ten Verses That Were not in the Original New Testament".

The author would like to get some feedback, positive and negative, on this topic. All comments will be posted provided they are civil and use language appropriate for all ages.

I don't think so. First, do you remember exactly what your parents told you 40-60 years ago? Bear in mind that the gospels of Jesus were written up that long after Jesus said those things, and it was very easy to get confused and take it literally. Then you get Paul, who made that mistake and further corrupted the Gospel writers--for sure, they cannot remember when someone is confusing them.

To point this out, write down a number and read it to someone. It should be around 5-7 digits long. Ask them to remember it--and, while they are trying, go and confuse the victim by saying the digits in a different sequence. Now, after a minute or so of this, ask them to write the number down. There is a pretty good chance it will be wrong. Now, compare it with what you wrote down. This should illustrate the problem the Gospel writers had memorizing what Jesus said while Paul was telling them something else.

Sorry WTW, that is not how oral transmission was done. You might actually want to educate yourself before you pop off like that.

Second, were is your evidence for the gospels being written "long after Jesus said those things"? The author provided his. Are you joining Terry in making wild ass assertions with no proof whatsoever?
