Bad Associations are the Best!!

So last Saturday I had my first non-witness social event. It wasn't anything big, a young couple who just recently moved into my apt bldg invited me over. We met a couple days after they moved in and I helped them out as they got themselves locked out at 11 pm at night. So I came over and watched a movie, had pizza, played some videogames and played a stupid boring board game. But it was AWESOME!!! It was normal, decent, wholesome association/fun. Nothing like what the WT portrays: evil, wicked, satan-controlled people who will lead you astray and cause you to drift. Such lies!!!

I must admit I was quite aprehensive at first as I really had no idea what to expect. But I just tried to be myself and kept reminding myself not to judge, I can't believe how many times I caught myself popping back into witness mode. Ugghhhck! Here all these months I've been wallowing and feeling lonely cuz my witness "friends" won't hang out with me cuz I'm not out selling their cookies and going to brain-washing sessions, when there's a whole wide world of friendly people out there. I just wish I would've done it sooner. Maybe we'll go watch a movie next time.

I can relate to you. A couple times now I've hung out with workmates briefly after work, and I truly enjoyed myself. They didn't curse, they weren't drunk, they weren't looking to "hook up", etc.. Most of them were Christian, some married, but all in all decent people. Not saying one has to be Christian and married to be decent either. Of course in the JW world, Christian or nonChristian, if you're not a JW, you're no good. But the couple times I've hung with these folks, I found myself thinking, "so this is what the worldlies do." The other thing was, I truly enjoyed the times I've spent with these worldlies. Granted, I felt like a martian studying earthlings, but I still had fun. It wasn't like the regimented fun experienced at congregation picnics, gatherings, or the friggin meetings(which by the way, I'm starting to detest). At the end of the evening spent with the worldlings, I walked away with a warm feeling in my heart and a smile on my face, thinking to myself, "I've got to get out more often, and I don't mean field service either."

    Good for you JEdi!

Alas, no orgies for me, either. I'm thinking of sueing the Borg for false advertising regarding the pleasures of the world!

But seriously, it is a huge revelation for a JW, especially a born-in, to see that "worldly" people are just as moral, kind, and loving, if not more so than the Dubs. I saw it before I left and it was one of the catalysts that proved to me that the WT lies to its members on a regular basis.

    Good for you Jedi!

I've found that the more I hang out with "worldies" the more normal I feel. They don't have orgies, do drugs, or summon demons. I mean, yeah, you could find people like that, but most are normal good hearted people.

Keep hanging with as many "bas associates" as possible! Break the mold you were in.

    Ha, thanks all.

I felt like a martian studying earthlings

ROFL. You have no idea how many times I felt like this. Everything they did, what they said, they way they moved, they things they had.... I was like OMG, OMG, OMG. Soooo lame After the first 30 min or so it got better. To the point that the movie we watched was: The Omen.....yup, that's right, my first demon-inspired film. We watched the old 1976-or-so version so it was actually more funny than it was scary. But then again, I never thought I'd be watching such a movie with worldlies. I kept thinking, "they're going to ask me to have a threesome with them any minute now..." buuuut it never happened.

I walked away with a warm feeling in my heart and a smile on my face, thinking to myself, "I've got to get out more often

Break the mold you were in.

Taking baby steps but really liking it.

Lol damn, no threesome??? Glad you had fun!

Seriously though, I went to my BFF's wedding (was maid of honor) and had an AMAZING time with WORLDLY people. It was the most fun I've ever had at a wedding and it wasn't even a religious ceremony and wasn't an expensive "showy display" (cause they're poor lol). It was just an all-around blast! No one got rowdy, no one got trashed, no wild orgies on the dance floor...we were just a bunch of people who love each other having fun (okay they DOES sound like an orgy...) ANYWAY...I've discovered in the last year that worldly people are a blast and YES they are different from JW's in that they aren't walking around judging every person they see and they aren't worried that God is going to smite them for watching an R-rated movie. They're NORMAL lol.

"But the couple times I've hung with these folks, I found myself thinking, "so this is what the worldlies do.""

Just a word of advice though, don't get fooled into thinking that there aren't still some dangers. Your office might be pretty tame. Certain industries may be more prone to being wild. Speaking from experience, the ER crowd gets wild. At our parties almost everybody gets falling down drunk, some skinnydip, etc. After a while I had to kind of rein myself in. I also learned from hanging with people in healthcare, that more people do drugs than you can possibly realize.

I'm not trying to knock "worldly" people, esp since I kinda am one now, but you just be careful. Or maybe I've just been around all the "bad" people, IDK.
