A writer is chosen as a “Compiler,” functioning like a magazine editor, and an assignment editor distributes briefs to writers — there are about 20 on staff. Copy is fact-checked, copy-edited and rewritten as it moves through the 70-person Writing Department. Illustrators and photographers, at a Witness training campus in Patterson, N.Y., provide the images.

  "Fact checking" ? Really? They actually do that? And then hide the citations from where the material originated?

  fact checking = checking their own WBTS material to confirm their doctrine. If any "outside" references are used, they cherry pick it and/or misquote them.

  Evidently, "checking facts" with regard to quotations from other sources does not include reviewing to make sure that they are within context.

  This story should be a wake up call to JW's as to the man-made nature of the WT publications. The F&DS has nothing to do with the WT content as was obvious from the story.
