Social Networking Media to Hasten the Demise of Watchtower

The social networking media technologies like facebook, will over the years, continue to present insurmountable challenges to the growith, stability and eventual demise of the Watchtower as an organisation. Realizing this inevitabilty, its therefore easy to predict that over the coming years, more and more talk about the perceived 'threat' of internet will be part of standard talks in kingdom halls, assemblies and convections.

What do you think about that?

evrything that become very popular was and always will be the target of WTS-leaders.

When Tv started in the fifties, then internet in the nineties, all this was targeted...

however it developped in two was: in time more and more jW got used to new technology and used it despite warning of the Borg, on the other hand, to those happy in a cult, it does not make a real diffrence. If I want to be deceived, nothing, no TV, no internet no Facebook will awaken me...

So, I think, the growth will slow down due to information on the internet, but I do not think the demise will happen, my prediction:

The WTS will remain with a slow growth rate (mostly in developping countries), more financial cut backs, and ups and downs in tightening and loosing the bonds as they did the past decades...

All I know is that the internet has made it so much easier to find out the truth about "The Truth".

Yes, sites like Facebook make it so easy to associate with former JWs- and prove that they are doing quite well without the Watchtower.

Think about what was available to a JW 20 years ago compared to now. Back then a JW with questions stood alone. Now we have boards like this one that are veritable communities confirming that we all had the same doubts.

Books like "Crisis of Conscience" were hard to come by back then. Now you can easily buy them online. And newer additions like "Combatting Mind Control", "I'm Perfect, You're Doomed", and "Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk" are going to make the next generation of young JWs savvy indeed.

Hell, there are even movies about the subject like "Worlds Apart".

Be very afraid, WT. You are losing control by the hour.

    We're everywhere!

It won't be those already in that will be affected. It will be those new studies that land on an apostate page and decide not to join.

    Hi!

But how can we lure them to apostate page in the first place?

No need to 'lure', IMO. When I did a search of 'jehovah's witnesses' years ago, this is one of the first sites that appeared. If people are looking, they'll find.

WTWizard is right.. The older generation (I use the word correctly, not "contemporaries" or "overlappers") of dubs are too set, too net-suspicious to be much affected. It is their grandkids growing up and their Return Visits and Bible Students that will check it out , and they are the ones that we most need to reach.

All power to the net !

I agree with those who predict a generational transition affecting the WTBTS. (boy, I think the GB is going to end up hating the word "generation" soon)

For every year that passes in the information age, more and more, people in the West esp are going to view suspiciously any person or group that tries to demonize the internet. Too much work is done, too much of our economy is tied on the ability to get on the internet. It is in school. Hell, emails rule, IM's rule.

So every generation (there's that word again) from here on out will be less and less inclined to believe what the GB says about the internet. There is a group that is current and that the GB has in its control that they probably don't worry about too much.

Where the internet and Social Networking is going to hurt is in future growth prospects. We are already seeing evidence of that with their move from Brooklyn to rural NY State, and the fact that 3rd world countries are growing at a far greater rate, while Western countries, even Japan, are regressing, exactly because they go online and see the lies.

The fact is, that when a believing JW dares go online to see what is said about JW's, and they see us "apostates", they know that it is true. And they aren't peeking on the internet just for the hell of it. They know something just isn't right about what is going on, and they can sniff the paranoia of the GB, and they want to know why they can't see what others are saying about JW's.

Witnesses are just a few steps above the Amish in their Luddite view of things. It takes them forever to learn to trust any new technology as it all comes from their two big enemies, Satan and science. LOL

They were scared silly of telephones, radio, TV, cars, and many other modern conveniences until it proved useful to them in someway that justified them using "things of the world" to promote their crap religion.

They cautiously use the internet now, but it's the one thing that will prove too big for them to control...you can't put limits on the human mind, which is what the internet is all about, expanding information, imagination and communication in a new and global way.

Apparently, a lot of our imagination is pornographic, but even then...you can't make people quit thinking about sex at least a few times a day either, which is why porn flourishes on the net.
