I think these are people who are too self-absorbed or too lazy to actually improve their part of the earth in the here and now.
SO - Go clean up your yard and plant some landscaping instead of day-dreaming about a god-given paradise with no work.

Just to quote my favorite so far:

Just another way to grab the emotional weak (at the time) promise something so extraordinary, so far reaching, so desirous, that in time they have got them in their trap and it is hard to escape when believed. Not much different than another cult promising to build a flying saucer to go to another planet where life is bliss. Both will not happen!
