With the old GB Members dying off, is more change on this ridiculous, antiquated policy in about to come out as New Lite? Or is there too much risk of a flood of lawsuits if they make dramatic changes?
I could see it going completely to being a "conscience matter".

A while back, it looked like it was moving towards "conscience matter" territory, but recently in internal correspondence, they've staunchly reiterated their stance (along with shunning and the two-witness rule).
Personally, I suspect it was in response to the medical (and scriptural) refutations of the policy by critics and former members; authoritarian regimes would rather piss acid than be seen capitulating to their opponents.
