How Many Angels Can Dance On The Head Of A Pin & Is God 3 Persons In 1?

    Christianity looniness:

Does God have a son who is God himself separate and the same?

How many angels can have a party on the head of a pin?

Why does God destroy the creation he loves so much?

Would you be willing to die for your faith?

Is all the bible the word of God or just the good parts and the rest just men's thought about God?

Does God play hide and go seek with us and give as a reward everlasting life for those who find him?

Back 2000 years ago God was a rather small Deity confined by the world view of those who worshipped him. Heck the Devil was able to take Jesus up to an unusually high mountain to give him a birds eye view of all the Kingdoms of the world and tempt Jesus with them.

At that time there were talking snakes, talking donkeys. Flaming sword guarding the fountain of youth or tree of life. A person could request God to stop the sun in the sky for 24 hours to get vengeance on ones enemies.

Nobody knew what stars were, or had any telescopes and thought the earth was the center of the universe.

Today we know so much more,, the "Milky Way" is no longer considered breast milk sprayed across the sky but a galaxy composed of 100s of billions of stars and with huge outer space telescopes we see that there are billions of these galaxies many much bigger than out own.

We can see all the way back by means of back round radiation what the universe looked like when it was only 300,000 years old back over 13 billion years in time.

Any notion of God back then was small according to the common world view at the time, and so a small minded jealous God who makes belief in doctrine a matter of getting a reward of everlasting life might be believable back then when the world was so small but no longer.

So why argue about whether God is a trinity as if your everlasting future depended on getting the answer right. It is small minded, and all based on a big assumptions that a creator of this vast universe is so small minded that he really cares what you beleive.

Trinity God or the Son not God arguments come from small minds stuck on semantics about some ancient text written by men who had assumed to be writing under inspiration of a jealous God who it is assumed needed to be worshipped or else!

In answer to your original question:4 and He is like a shamrock: small green and split 3 ways.

I think it is a bit unfair to accuse those having the Trinity-v-Notrinity debate as being small-minded. It seems to me they are trying to explain why they believe what they believe. I suspect though that had the doctrine of the Trinity not been defined by some committee of Christians under the direction of the Roman Emperor 300 years after the main event was supposed to have happened, then nobody would have dreamt it up.

It is actually reminiscent of much earlier ideas when gods often appeared to hang around in 3s (Set Isis and Osiris as one example). I know Trinitarians will say it isn't the same thing at all and they are entitled to their opinion however for some of us with no axe to grind it it looks like another attempt to include concepts from pre-Christian non-hebrew religions to make the state religion more palatable.

People have been arguing over this for at least 1,700 years.

The Internet has made it so much more fun. Do you really think people will ever stop arguing about it?

    Grom,

I think it is a bit unfair to accuse those having the Trinity-v-Notrinity debate as being small-minded.
It seems to me they are trying to explain why they believe what they believe.

I really don't think it unfair and here's why:

Why argue about the subject unless you feel it is some how important. Apparently those who argue the point feel it is important to God that you get it right or else God is some how offended if your worship is misdirected in some way by either not giving Jesus enough worship or too much worship, in other words you got to have the right formula for worship or God gets hurt in his feelings and might not hear your prayers or you don't get salvation. They have a God that has a very small mind because they have a small mind, their thinking is all cluttered up with unproven mythology of a vindictive God who cares what you think.

I think we will have to agree to differ on that. I don't think it is fair to ascribe one motivation to such large and diverse groups of people.

    Leaving,

The Internet has made it so much more fun. Do you really think people will ever stop arguing about it?

Perhaps, but not any time soon.

But what I really find hilarious are those who try to use scientific sounding analogies in explaining either how he can't be 3 in 1 or how he could be 3 in 1. Even psychology being used to explaining God's personality being spilt into 3 caused by an eternity of shear loneliness.

Just because a bunch of old farts in Brooklin says the Trinity is confusing and not supported by the Bible, doesn't mean that it is confusing and not supported by the Bible.

The version of the Trinity that those old fogies argue against is believed by very few Christian denominations. They choose it because it is full of holes, which is why the bulk of Christianity doesn't teach it.

There have been many threads here on this subject. Search for them.

I am an Athiest and think the Bible is nothing more than the thoughts of men about God, but I can still understand how the Trinity is supported by the Bible and can don the hat of a minister of Christendom and take a JW to task on it.

    Cheers

    Chris

I suspect most Christian have no idea how the Trinity is supposed to work and simply accept it on the basis of faith.

If people wised up the Clergy would be out of work and seminary professors would get the boot, too. We're talking about nice white collar jobs here people! There are only so many good paying garbage collector jobs for these people available, if they lose their cushy work of explaining the Bible to the sheep.

I have no idea about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin and I don't really care, and I don't believe in the trinity. But I don't believe in much of anything anymore.
