Yes, many creative liberties were taken!
I had been introduced to the book 'Paradise Lost, Paradise Regained' through my father and a point he had always made was how fearful the pictures of children and dogs falling helplessly into the abyss made him feel.
Taking that into consideration I felt using Roland Emmerich and his images of destruction were inspired by way of the book and Jehovah's Witnesses would make a humerous article.
