    Why Not a December Birth?

Jesus was born in the Judean city of Bethlehem. Luke’s Gospel reports: “There were also in that same country shepherds living out of doors and keeping watches in the night over their flocks.” ( Luke 2:4-8 ) This was not unusual. “The flocks had to spend the greater part of the year in the open air,” says the book Daily Life in the Time of Jesus. But would the shepherds be outside with their flocks on a cold December night? The book says: “They passed the winter under cover; and from this alone it may be seen that the traditional date for Christmas, in the winter, is unlikely to be right, since the Gospel says that the shepherds were in the fields.”

Would shepherds spend the night outdoors with their flocks in the snow?

This conclusion is corroborated by another detail in Luke’s Gospel account: “In those days a decree went forth from Caesar Augustus for all the inhabited earth to be registered; (this first registration took place when Quirinius was governor of Syria;) and all people went traveling to be registered, each one to his own city.”— Luke 2:1-3 .

I am sure that many still think that Jesus was born on Dec 25th, fact is we DON'T know WHEN and any date is just specualting.

Its a tough call to make, I mean, A census in summer would be silly, people need to tend the fields and flocks.

In spring they shoudl be planting and in late summer and early fall, they should be harvesting.

Pros and cons to when a census would have been taken, then again the bible does not mention WHEN the census was taken ( time of the year), so that is up for specualtion too.

It is debated that the early Church decided on Dec 25th to counter the emerging influence of the Mitrhanites, who worshipped they God Mithra and celebrated his birth on Dec 25th, It could have been a political move that, obviously, worked.

Fact is we don't knwo why it was chosen, though we can specualte, but we do know WHy it is celebrated now, it is the day we celebrate the birth of our saviour, Jesus Christ, as a human. We don't celebrate the DATE, we celebrate the event, an anniversary if you prefer.

Everyone agrees (even watchtower) that no one knows the date of Jesus' birth.

When our wedding anniversary falls on an inconvenient date, we celebrate it the next convenient date.

    totally agree

Watchtower however has to poop on the date everyone arbitrarily chose as Jesus' birth.
