Schnells 'into the light'...just couldn't get into it.

Just read Scnells book 'into the light of christianity' and frankly for me, while having a little interesting background on Russell, the rest was lost on me.

I understand some who leave the JWs still needing to fill that gap with worship of God, or Christ etc. But in his attempt to discredit the Watchtower societies doctrines and teaching methods he went back to justifying Hellfire torment!? Hellfire! Well i guess he found his God was still as loving as ever. As far as i am concerned he was still as lost as ever. He had chosen to overlook his now cherished traditional christianity's own debauched lawless evil past.

Go back through history and you will find that by the year 300 it was not possible to know if one was at a pagan or christian celebration unless told so! All the years of bloodshed through wars and inquesitions, crusades and persecutions are fancifully overlooked. And at the end over nearly 2000 years of mystery and mayhem he arrived at the churches of christendom being Gods vessels in diverse forms?

Perhaps his second book was an attempt to promote the first transcript for 30 years, bring down the JWs. Of course the preachers of christendom showed him love, they wanted to stop the WT soc too.

While i will never agree with the teachings of the JWs again, its not enough to send me back to Christendom.

Perhaps i will find his first book more palatable!?

Schnell's first book is interesting in a way. It gives you a rare glimpse into the Rutherford era Bethel. --Believable for those that have researched Rutherford at all.

However his tone is nasty and bitter. --So much so that active JW's with the mental cajones to read the book usually find it humorous. Schnell also documents hardly anything which makes it even easier for his anecdotes to be written off as lies.

Thank you for this book review.

While I can understand WHY a person who truly believes in Hell would want to warn others, I now know that I can skip this book.

Yeah, I loved "30 years", but couldn't get into the other books he wrote, probably because it was filled with orthodoxy

Thanks for the heads-up. I agree with you entirely. It makes me puke seeing material trashing the JW's while preaching that hellfire is real. Pathetic.
