Mom left us on 8-22-09. Her household is full of furniture. What do I do with it?

You want to ask a reputable antiques dealer to come take a look at it first and make an offer on anything they might want. Make sure it is someone you can trust.
After that, there are places that do estate sales and auctions.
Do these things first before you donate the rest to a charity (and hugs again about losing your Mom.)

Find people who she liked who need it, or estate sale (or Craigslist include photos it helps) and spend the money on something she would have wanted you to even if that is you. W.Once

Habitat ReStores
Habitat ReStores are outlets that accept donated goods for resale. While every ReStore is a little different, most focus on home improvement goods—furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances. These donated goods are sold to the general public at a fraction of the retail price to help local affiliates fund the construction of Habitat homes within their communities. Materials sold by Habitat ReStores are usually donated by local retailers, contractors and individuals in the community. ReStores provide an environmentally and socially responsible way to keep good, reusable materials out of the waste stream and simultaneously provide funding for all of Habitat’s community improvement work.
P.S., Sorry about your mom.

So sorry for your loss.
Goodwill. Salvation Army. Other local charities. Most will pick it up. Auctions are ok, but a hassle IMO, unless a lot of money/value is involved. If you just want to give it to family, send an invite for a particular day and have it all done at the same time.
When my mom left we spend six months - she was a pack-rat - sorting. We would have been better off in hindsight to just order a dumpster - though the sorting was cathartic I suppose.
Peace

sell the house with the furniture in it? I do not know what you think about that.
