I find it funny how my over zelous Jw parents who talk so poorly of the world and there pagan traditions, somehow magically end up eating a turkey dinner on freakin thanksgiving.

But of course, god forbid anyone call it thanksgigving thats outrageous.

Dont they see how ridiclously stupid they look? it just go to show how a cult can brainwash a person.

    Anyone else have similar experiences?

Oh, I could tell some tales! My idiot JW parents - who always dragged we kids out to "look at the Christmas lights" because WE CHILDREN were feeling 'so deprived'! How my parents, who - like so many non-college-educated JWs - were broke all of the time but would buy us "December" presents - during the FIRST part of December!! I used to roll my eyes [I was ten years old] and tell them to wait until the January sales to buy us something "NOT-for-Christmas"!

There was the "NOT-for-Thanksgiving" turkey, too. Also the "NOT-really-pornographic" Playboy magazines I discovered in my dad's trunk and in his sock drawer - one drawback of making me the family 'slave', which included doing their laundry and putting it away...

The stench of hypocrisy - ah, I could go on and on...

Yah us parents tried so hard to toe the line the WTS set for us we ended up making our kids miserable far to many times. Today since we're all free of the WTS we can enjoy the holidays without the burden of guilt.

Not to mention spending Thanksgiving out in field circus. I did that once, and everyone in the group got a craving for turkey after smelling turkey cooking in every house. There was no place open that had turkey, but we did end up getting some [gasp] eggnog (that would these days be "stumbling others").

That was the worst. I did Thanksgiving service once and it was miserable, disturbing people on the biggest family day of the year. It was embarrasing. So much for "making your reasonableness known to all men."
