I read an article in the New York Times a couple of weeks ago that went into detail about the process of, um, processing ground beef. It seems that plants that create hamburger, ground beef, etc. are not so well policed and the rules aren't so stringent to begin with. It made me wary of eating hamburger and I'm a meatatarian. Now this...

My boss was a meat processor before becoming an officer of the law.

The stories he can tell will make you go ...

I wonder what would happen if every package of meat came with a picture of the animal, before and during slaughter.

Its very difficult to contemplate eating any meat these days. I come from big farm family. They raised their own dairy cattle, beef, chicken etc.

I can barely eat any processed meat these days. I can smell when hamburger is not right when I cook it even though it is sold as OK. I look for free range, anything, and even then....I am not sure.

Wait a minute, Undie! No wonder they've got troubles, since when do "plants" create hamburger, ground beef, etc."???

What's up with that? And isn't a metaterian a beefy Terrier? I'm so confuzzled, oh wait a minute that's someone else.

Hah hah... how 'bout meat factories? that better?

And no jokes about "creating" as opposed to producing, either...

At Mr. Bee's (long-standing) request, I have finally begun buying all our meat and chicken at a reputable butcher shop. It is more expensive, but it is of better quality (taste) and for some reason, I feel better about it than pre-packaged super market meat. It may be an illusion, but what the heck.
