The last time they visited me they kept talking about how their brothers and sisters aren't very close to them anymore (on both Mom and Dad's sides of the family). I wanted to say, "Do you think that's because you joined a cult and have held them at arm's length for decades now?" Anyway, I think they also worry that if something happens they will be taken care of by their children. Good thing I believe in UNconditional love. They should try it some time.
I think my parents miss their family

The JWs don't see themselves as the ones in the wrong on this. I have had to tread very carefully with my parents, especially my father. Over the years he has done some very unloving things in the family that have caused rifts between him and his children. I decided to not let that destroy our relationship, although it has altered it quite a bit.
My father recently spoke about wanting to see the grandchildren before he dies. He has been speaking a lot about dead family members too, one of which was his first born grandson (not a JW). He has been visiting his parents grave sites as well. I think there are a lot of thoughts going through his mind now.
One of the biggest problems all JWs face with non-JW family is the following.... their beliefs tell them that these people will not be with them in paradise forever and ever. How awful that must be for them.

JimmyPage, I commend you. And I agree with you. They should try it sometime. The other thing this does is it contradicts what the WTS teaches them about worldly people. I know my father is in conflict because of his teachings versus who I am. It has been one of my specific goals.

It will be so sad for the grandchildren of JWs, to at some point learn they never got to know them was due to the grandparent shunning their (the grandchild's) parent because of a cult. I think the grandchildren will know and be the wiser about the reality of the negative effect of cultism.

Primitive Genius... perhaps you'd care to elaborate on this...
