Daniel 12, what is the JW view of the 1290 and 1335 days?

  1 At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people— everyone whose name is found written in the book— will be delivered.

  2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.

  3 Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.

  4 But you, Daniel, close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.

  5 Then I, Daniel, looked, and there before me stood two others, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank.

  6 One of them said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, How long will it be before these astonishing things are fulfilled?

  7 The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, lifted his right hand and his left hand towards heaven, and I heard him swear by him who lives for ever, saying, It will be for a time, times and half a time. When the power of the holy people has been finally broken, all these things will be completed.

  8 I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked, My lord, what will the outcome of all this be?

  9 He replied, Go your way, Daniel, because the words are closed up and sealed until the time of the end.

  10 Many will be purified, made spotless and refined, but the wicked will continue to be wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.

  11 From the time that the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days.

  12 Blessed is the one who waits for and reaches the end of the 1,335 days.

  13 As for you, go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance.

  I have found some info regarding Russells and Rutherfords views, but what is the current belief on Daniel 12?

  Watchtower 1954, 6/1:

  The 1,260-day period, with its destructive effect on the power of Jehovah’s people, found its fulfillment from October, 1914, to April, 1918. The 1,290-day period ran from January, 1919, to September, 1922, and the 1,335-day period extended from September, 1922, to May, 1926. A full Scriptural treatise of these dates and their application will be found in the Watchtower issues of July 1 and 15, 1951.

  P.S.: just checked the Daniel Prophecy book (1999!): it's still "truth".

  Narkissos is right.

  I used to like to bring this up any time I could because literally no one could explain it. I remember that when I was studying the two brothers who studied with me asked me what book I wanted to study next and I said "the book of Daniel" and they thought they'd be going through a publication, but I said that I thought the green Your Will Be Done and the others weren't consise I and that I could care less about Sputnik. They told me Franz wrote it, and I said "then I hate his style of writing...he brings up questions in every paragraph that are not only unnecessary but don't get answered if ever until many paragraphs later..."

  I said I want to understand and be able to explain the BIBLE book of Daniel without any rabinnical literature as supporting material.

  We ended up using only the index and looked up only the referenced pages that dealt with each.

  The study rolled along until Daniel chapter 11 when I told them that the King of the North fglooding over etc sounded more like the path that led to the USSR. Then when we came to the 1290 and 1335 days I said "c'mon! a couple of conventions!???...1914, WWI maybe, but a couple of conventions???"

  Too bad I let it slide. I could have saved 25 years.

  I NEVER believed this, it's the lamest explanation of a fulfillment of prophecy anywhere in the WBTS' literature.

  Lamest? Don't be hasty. There's also the 2,300 evenings and mornings from June 1 OR 15, 1938 to October 8 OR 22, 1944.

  Spot on as usual Narkissos,

  and one thing they have not considered is 2300 evenings and mornings could be a total,so only 1150 days are maybe being spoken of, if so they will have to go back to the Ouija board, or whatever they use in the Writing Dept. and get a new explanation. Noo Lite !
