I found this in my email box this morning... from an old friend. Thought I'd pass it on...
    -------------------------------

Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year is gone.

And I never see my old friends face,
For life is a swift and terrible race,
He knows I like him just as well,
As in the days when I rang his bell.

And he rang mine if, we were younger then
And now we are busy, tired old men.
Tired of playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying to make a name.

"Tomorrow" I say "I will call on Jim"
"Just to show that I'm thinking of him."
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.

Around the corner!- yet miles away,
"Here's a telegram sir." "Jim died today."
And that's what we get and deserve in the end.
Around the corner, a vanished friend.

I agree, teejay, it's good to be reminded of the passage of time and the need to be active with our love. However...

And that's what we get and deserve in the end.

Again with the guilt. It is NOT what we DESERVE. It's simply what happens as a result of choices... choices that seem reasonable, logical, even necessary at the time. And if I call on old friends, or family, it will not be because of guilt. It will be out of love. Guilt just flat doesn't motivate me at all, these days.

Thanks TeeJay for passing that along. I cant believe how the years fly by. When I was younger I always thought "I take care of that when I have time" Wel, I 'm pushing 39 and I'm afraid that won't do anymore. Wished that message was felt by more.

I can't argue with you, COMF. I had a problem with that one expression myself. I guess I should've changed it.

I think what the author meant is that if we don't take advantage of the times we have to say "I love you... I'm thinking of you..." to those we care about, the time will come when it's too late and the only excuse we'll have is that we just never got around to it.

I liked the overall message of the piece, though. It fits well with something I've been thinking about regarding my own family. I'd made an early new year's resolution I guess, and the email came right on time.

Well, I 'm pushing 39 and I'm afraid that won't do anymore. Wished that message was felt by more.

I can relate, Perry. I turned 44 last month and the older I get the more I value the things I've taken for granted for too long. Foremost among those is the relationships within my family that I should have nurtured better all along. I can't change the past, but I can do better in the future. That's my aim.

    Peace,
    tj
