    ok, here is the deal...

my son has a learner's permit
for which he is required to have
accrued 30 hours of driving time,
10 hours of which must be at night,
by the time he takes his driving test

    our fledgling PFLAG meeting ended
shortly after 9 pm this evening, so we decided to
make the 15 mile trip around the bay to the next town
over where they keep "wally world"

welllllllllllll..... when you arent in lock-step
with a time draining mind-control cult,
you forget the schedule.... that tuesdays
are meeting nights and that the time-pressed
JWs are going to take advantage of a 24 hr store
    after the last "amen"

sure enough, ran into an MS (40ish, single
owns a breakfast and burger place)
and a young couple with a toddler and
a pre-K kid, both of whom should have
    been asleep hours ago....

to my surprise, and i really mean
i was SURPRISED that the MS not
only greeted me but since we were
pushing carts in the same direction,
we had an awkward, and thankfully
    brief nonsense conversation....
and OF COURSE, the young family
was on the aisle where the liquid
laundry detergent was, and of course,
since i dont shop there often i couldnt
find what i was looking for and the wife
    was trying to help me!!!

why am i surprised they spoke to me?
in may of this year, a front page article
in the local daily for this rural area featured
my transgender son and me, and reported
our activism for school safety and our
lobbying efforts on Capitol Hill in washington
and our association with the Gay, Lesbian, Straight
    Education Network (GLSEN)...

the JWs on this side of the bay, same congro,
run away screaming like they have seen a leper
whenever we share the same air space
so i assumed i was DF'd in absentia....

    guess not, eh?

hah- your title made me laugh. so true. I think the whole nation-wide.

I bet they didn't want to be thought of (or more likely, SEEN AS) intolerant of your son ( and you) since he seems to be high profile...

Or they could just be actually nice people (those JWs in particular, not the whole religion!).

I remember going to Safeway late at night and running into a carload of jw's shopping after the meeting. I really tried to avoid them and was not successful because of my more gregarious daughter

White dove, I did not know they have Safeways in Greenland. I remember going to my local Safeway and around the corner I seen 2 couples in a dress and suit and tie with name badges. This was 10 years ago. Did they look out of place. It was like 90 F out side. I smelled then a mile away!

Why Wal-Mart tolerates the witlesses setting up a booth is beyond me. All that does is drives away business from well-off people--who will go to Target or K-Mart to avoid the witlesses. For sure, I could see them lecturing people if they walk out of Wal-Mart with a bag full of tinsel garland, a Christmas tree, or several bags full of ornaments--especially if it's one of their studies that is bumbling along without making any "progress".

Rather than dealing with the witlesses at Wal-Mart, I think I will continue shopping online at L.L.Beans and Stonewall Kitchen. At least they don't have booths where the witlesses are waiting to recapture me and drag me back to the Kingdumb Hell. Also, I would rather get my sun-worship decorations at Bronners or Christmas Mouse, get them at Target, or order them online wherever I can find the ones I want. That way, they will not get the chance to call in reinforcement witlesses to drag me back to their homes or the Kingdumb Hell with the sun-worship ornaments placed in the nearest trash receptacle.

    point made kudra....

in fact, i think, aside from
being a little (or a lot) shallow,
    even the ones who make
an obvious effort to avoid me are
    basically nice people....
    these are the ones who
were in the BS that met
    at my house since....
    well, since some of them
    were kids who have gone
on to marry and have kids...

that old live and let live aspect of
"you can go yahweh while i go mine"
is perfectly fine as i would not actively
seek to engage in convo anyway

Wizard, i have never seen a WT booth
    set-up anywhere near wally world...
in fact i have never seen the local
congro set up any kind of public
    booth.... wal-mart seems to allow
boy scout/ school choir type car wash
events or hot dog and warm lemonade
veteran poppy sales, but i have never
seen any kind of overt religious overtones
to anything happening on their property

Make a note of this, too: Stay away from Hardees on Saturday morning, around 10:30.

I had to chuckle at that description...so true.

My take on the situation is this though...why should I adjust my schedule to avoid them? I'm not afraid of them. They hold no power over me. If I want to go to Wal-Mart at 9:30 on Tuesday, I will. And if I run into any dubs, I'll be nice and pleasant provided they are. Actually, unless it's someone I was pretty friendly with, most of em avoid me.
