What do you say when...

  I saw a former acquaintance recently. I saw her first from a distance. She later approached me and started a conversation:

  Jw: PurplePlus? How are you? What congregation do you go to?

  Me: None

  JW: Yeah, I haven't seen you around. Why not? Are you alright?

  Me: Do you really want to know?

  Jw: Yeah

  Me: I'm not gonna get into it here. It's a long story. I looked into some things and stuff is not adding up.

  Jw: Do you want to talk later?

  Me: No. I'm okay.

  Jw: I hope so. I hope things turn out well for you. See you later.

  We KNOW that even if she was sincerely interested, talking to her would do no good.

  Put on the spot ...

  If I am not free or willing "to get into it" at a particular time or with a certain individual, I simply say that I am assigned to XXXX XXXXX Congregation [which, technically, I am]. We have so many congregations here that no one really is going to bother checking out what you do or don't do. Or, I travel a great deal and "see the friends" at an out-of-town KH [drive-by viewing].

  When I happen to run into one of the "friends" and they ask how I am, I say I could'nt be better. Which is the truth. Sometimes they look at me like they feel sorry for me and when that happens I just smile and start talking about something else.
