1989 was a HUGE political year for democratic revolutions! Chinese students built a 10 Meter high "Statue of Liberty" in Teanamien Square and demanded democracy. {remember the lone guy with his shopping standing infront of the Tanks} ....the government arrested sypathetic political figures and ran the protesters down with Tanks. The same year the Berlin wall was destroyed and Eastern Europe was free......so, how will Iran end? I think it's too early to tell....I predict if anything a Civil War.

Probably more like the Soviet Union because Iran's government is corrupt and ineffective. In China, the unspoken deal is 'you obey and we direct 7 to 10 % GDP growth per year'. So, that holds down the dissent. Even if your life sucks, you might have hope, for you or your kids.

The thing to watch for is: will the protests spill over to major cities in Iran? If not, nothing will likely come of it. Tehran has always been a thorn in the side of the Iranian Theocrats.
