The Prodigal son....the real story, was it applied to you?

I am furious about the latest drama by the WTBS, it pulls on the heart strings of parents...... and kids gone awry...from the WBTS society. Not society in general.

I consider this the same as a parent investing in a college education, the kid, either blowing it or not getting a job, you worry, fret, and are thrilled to get the son or daughter back to help them make their way in life.

It has nothing to do with worshiping the WBTS, infact, any kids who leave the JW's, are most likely denied their inheritance (if there is any to be had), unless they come back in full force. Those who make their way in the real world are still denied and that inheritance goes to headquarters.

    I am beyond angry.

To use the prodigal son story as a tool to get parents to continue shunning to get their teenagers or grown adult children back into the fold is very dirty business and true manipulation of scripture.

It has been thrown at me many times.

    Hi,

If they were really following the bible then this should happen!

    Luke 15:22-24 (New International Version)

22 "But the father said to his servants, 'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' So they began to celebrate.

From what I have read, most that return to the "kingdom halls" get a lukewarm reception.

Anyhow, this is written of the WT

    2 Peter 2:1-2(New International Version)

    False Teachers and Their Destruction
1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. All the best, Stephen

They do have a knack for creating rules and behaviour that are not scriptural. One of my many issues with the WTS.

Regarding the Prodigal Son.... I never really related to this story. But then, I'm a 'daughter'. My parents never used this on me as one of my brothers got/gets more of the attention regarding worldliness than I do. Oh well... I will see what happens after my father attends the DC. He may not remember much of it shortly after.

Using this story to manipulate people and their emotions is slimey.

The prodigal story I read, screams out forgiveness and compassion.

The interesting bit I have always used, is where the "ELDER" son is not happy about the attention this one time sinner was getting !!, he thought he should not be given this amount of attention. FORGIVNESS !!

At one time I questioned an elder on this subject, asking why it is nearly always a over a year for dis. Ones to be accepted back.

His answer was they have to prove their worth to come back by travelling that distance. Done by the "son" (he quoted a few thousand-mile trip)

But I said they would have to travel 30mls a day for a whole year to prove their repentance, surely that is not in line with Luke 15, or more importantly Jehovah.

I guess the thing I had a problem with was that the prodigal son fell in with some non witness girl and some friend who was "bad news". I guess. I was only half listening. I guess it was the girl that really did it. You know. Sex.

But here's what they had happen to this guy. He hangs out with this girl, she turns out to be a real pain in the ass for him, as all worldly people are, you know. And then, I am sorry if I am spoiling this for anyone, there's this drunk driving incident where the the guy's friend was driving and the two chicks got hurt and the bad news friends wanted him to take the fall for it. You know, all worldly people will stab you in the back, just give them a chance. And the dude winds up in jail. They actually have uniformed police escort him off stage, and put him in an interrogation room.

Because, kids - that's what's going to happen to you if you leave Jehovah.

    Yep.

My mom cried. I laughed. Inwardly, of course.
