Au contraire, mon Frere: yeast spores float in the air all around us - that's where sourdough originally came from. The yeasts used in baking and brewing today were once wild species and have been "domesticated."

I'm no fan of the Noah myth, but yeast is not useful as a discussion point.

Wt myth is that before the fllood, there was not such a thing as fermentation. This excuses noah for getting drunk, cuz he 'didn't know'. However, it seems to me, that the wt claimed preflood conditions would have been perfect for molds, mildews and yeasts to proliferate wildly; no direct sunlight, warm, humid, no big temperature swings.

    Satanus, my brother-in-arms, said,

REALLY? I never caught that one!

So does the WT claim that Nohweh created yeast after Eve, or do they teach that prior to the flood, yeast metabolized carbohydrates into some non-intoxicating compound, like manna (chemical formula unknown, since it is imaginary) or maybe formaldehyde, CH 2 O? Or maybe they transmuted the carbohydrates into some non-material spiritual substance. The mind swoons, but not because of antediluvian alcohol.

Did the yeast sin by converting (pun intended) carbohydrates to ethanol?

I pulled that from memory. Looking through the wtlib, i found that the wt did say that there was drunkenness before the flood. However, i also found the following :

    *** w67 3/15 p. 191 Questions From Readers ***

For that matter, perhaps under the changed atmospheric conditions that followed the Flood, the wine Noah drank had fermented to greater strength than he realized. '

It's the idea in this quote that lodged in my memory.
