...why women ever even consider becoming JW's. I mean, what are the percs that attract so many women, so that they outnumber the men around 2 - 1?

It can't be money. Is it power? Yeah, right, so these women who so outnumber the men, voluntarily join this chauvenistic org that doesn't let them assert themselves in any way whatsoever? Why, even if a lady wants to pray with a fella present, she must wrap a towel around her head so that the angels won't be upset at her effrontery!

It does seem nuts that any woman would want to climb aboard the "Good ship Subjection", so, Philo and I sat down together (no, it was BEFORE we went to the pub) and sort of arrived at the following conclusion:

We reckon that it is likely that women who join the JW's by themselves are either (a) single, or, (b) in very unsatisfying relationships. We think that no woman would ever entertain submitting to authoritarian or paternalistic dictates by males in todays post-feminist society.

Maybe the type of woman who is attracted to the JW religion is a very unhappy woman who is seeking for some ready-made structure in her life?

You have to remember that most are misguided into believing that the borg is a very loving and supportive organization (which as well all know too well, is a ficade). It's only after they've been involved for a while that they realize the truth, and sadly, many of them feel pressured to bend and conform rather than to think. Many fall victim to the "Jehovah's people will take care of you" bit. Some are forced into it by believing fathers and husbands.

If they truely knew what it was really like on the "inside", they surely wouldn't have signed up.

    Englishman,

I doubt this is strictly a dub phenomenon. In my experience women outnumber men by a large majority in almost every religion. As far as active participants are concerned, anyways. I don't know why this is so or if it just seems that way to me. Interesting scenario, nonetheless.

I am sure that women generally are a touch more 'spiritual' than us blokes! But most folks I see coming out of churches...are women albeit elderly.....a foregleam of JW future!

Many women come from childhood homes where their father wasn't the best example, and they go through life yearning to find a better "dad." This manifests itself in their cycling through men, and it manifests itself in the appeal the JW message would have for them: A father figure in the sky who would never disappoint them, always be there for them, and only do good things for them. On a deep psychological level, this must have a very strong appeal.
