Eaten Tapes

I wonder how many Kingdumb Malady tapes and CDs ever got ruined. Tapes could start binding, and the takeup reel could stick. The result is the tape gets eaten--funny when it's right in the middle of the Kingdumb Malady. Or, the tape breaks, usually at the junction between leader and tape. I have also heard of the supply reel dragging, slowing the "music(??)", or even stretching the tape. Hopefully, there will be a nice dropout on that tape.

When those damn CDs came out, that was impossible. Instead, CDs get scratched. Now, all that could go wrong is that the CD starts skipping at a certain point, hopefully near the beginning of the Kingdumb Malady. No other sound degradations are possible with CDs.

Yes, but there was always that genius brother who couldn't figure out how to get the song to play, or played the wrong song. The cong always waited, standing and songbook in hand, while three or four brothers put their heads together to fix the problem.

We used a CD magazine, so the discs wouldn't get scratched. Of course such a CD player was harder for some of the brothers to operate.

The music for the worship service is canned?

    CANNED MUSIC

    Dan Hicks

Canned Music, Canned Music, playing on the radio.
Canned Music, Canned Music, without a dime it doesn't go.
Favorites on the Juke Box are only half the show when it's Canned Music, Canned Music....

A little before she left me, I asked her what its all about.
She said, "I feel like dancin', I feel like stepping out."
I took to her where the Band, where the Band was on the Stand, playin' Live Music, Live Music

She got us on the dance floor,
To me it was a sight.
I never seen my baby movin', like the moves she made on me that night.
    I did not have a chance, the way that music made me dance;
It was, ah, Live Music, Live Music.

It ain't canned.... Canned Music, Canned Music, playing on the radio.

The rhythm was all around us, we was really steppin' out.
My baby said I'm living for this music, I asked her what its all about.
She said, "I'm just a silly girl, this stuff has got me in a whirl.... and it's Live Music, Live Music...."

And that was the night she left me, danced herself into my memory.
My baby left me for the drummer, I guess I'll never solve that mystery.
I think I learned my lesson, just don't get too near the band, when it's Live Music, Live Music....

A little before she left me, I asked her what its all about.
She said, she feel like dancing, she feel like stepping out.....Ahhhhhhhh

The CDs from the Society were of inferior quality than most music CDs.

They got this milky, opaque look to them. And it only got worse over time. I couldn't tell if it was the coating or if it was coming through the inside. At the time, I thought maybe the extreme temps in the hall, up and down constantly as the air system was on and off, had something to do with it.

As it got worse, they started to not play correctly. They would "skip" or get stuck, soundling like Max Headroom (remember him?).

We ended up going through 2 or 3 sets in the time that I was the sound servant.

That's the reflective layer (aluminum?) oxidizing. It means the plastic coating is of crappy quality and let a bit of air in causing the oxidation.

I hope the Kingdumb Malady CDs are of p*** poor quality--as the recordings are. That way, people will get those CDs and they will start skipping or not playing at all within a few months. All the while, my copy of 50 Cent's The Massacre CD is playing perfectly.
