Great article in yesterday's USA Today newspaper by Tom Krattenmaker entitled "The End" as a weapon.

I don't know how to provide a link but if you go to USAToday.com and click on the religion link you will find it.

Here is some of the article....

Given the huge challenges facing this country and the constant barrage of "be afraid!" messages from politics and pulpits, it's understandalbe some of us have a close relationship with dread.

Yet we should remain wary of doomsday fantasizing, in either its religious or secular form. For history shows that such thinking, wether it revolves around the wrath of God or the rage of nature, has a way of embarrassing the doomsayers- and more important, hampering much needed progress along the way.

"Let's wipe it all out and start again!" holds a certain appeal when the present state of affairs is irredeemabley bad. Especially to the beholders who believe they will be among the "saved" wether through devine intervention or at least by being on the right side of the argument.

Good advice....wether it's the Watchtower or global warming.

What is happening in political and economic circles (religion, too) is an organized SHAM.

They are pumping out the "Be Afraid" messages as a control ploy.

As all here should well know, fear is a motivator. And when motivated by fear, many people are more likely to look to (their leaders or "superiors") for guidance, security, and direction. Thus, easily giving up their own person powers and assigning their control to others.

This is why all of their plans need to be exposed......not to cause fear, but rather so people can see the intent and decide how best to subvert these evils.

People need to know what is at stake. If not prepared to stand up against the evil, it will be a doomsday for many.

I do not believe that the end will happen. At least not while so many cults are focused on it--God would not need to do it while everyone is living as if it were in fact imminent. Rather, He would rather see people in terror for nothing. But wait until absolutely no one is expecting it--and then He will strike to terrorize people the way He did the nations when Israel finally made it to the Canaanites' home. And throughout the reign of that Nation of Terror (Israel under God's leadership). And in 70 AD, after faking out the Christians for 4 years (which could have been used to move material things out of the land into safety).
