History channel & Noah's flood

There was an interesting segment on the History channel last night. They didn't mention Noah, actually. It was about the asteroids and such that have hit the earth. They were showing some of the huge holes made by them and they said that northern Russia was hit by a bunch of them at once way back when and that the force was so great that it shifted the earth's axis 30 to 40 degrees. The result was that the area that is now the northpole was warm and suddenly became freezing cold. They specifically mentioned the woolly mammoth with the green foliage in his mouth and said there also is coral up there. That part that had been cold then melted and caused all kinds of flooding. The JWs always bring up the woolly mammoth thing. Well, that explains that.

    I'm interested.

What do the JWs have to say about the Mammoth?

They say that since the mammoth was found frozen with food in his mouth, that it must have been a very sudden death, like a deluge. Thus "proving " the Bible true. -om

The WTS were not the first to attach the 'quick frozen' mammoth scenario to the flood.

As soon as the mammoths were discovered the speculation began. I actually have a paper written three years after their discovery that already alluded to the flood being responsible for the carcasses. John Whitcomb, and other YEC tried to turn the find into a science, bending both the Bible and science to fit their ideas.

It suited the WTS writing team, who are nothing but intellectual scavengers to take some of the YEC ideas and blend them with their own.

The asteriod proposal is one of a number of possibilities as to what really did happen, by no means proved at this point.

Just a note. The WTS, has very few doctines of belief that are exclusive to themselves. They merely comb through pre-written works looking for scraps that suit them, and then gluing them in place to create a patchwork of theological beliefs that no person could believe unless they were cunningly manipulated into doing so.

Even some of the WTS more 'way out' interpretations, such as the League Of Nations and UN being the 'disgusting thing that causes desolation', are not their own. Carl Jonsson, always the great researcher, dug up information to show that actually W.E.Vine { of 'parousia' fame ) was the originator of this interpretation, a decade or so before Rutherford had even sobered up long enough to light his cigar.

As has been said before, the Bible's biggest enemies are its believers.

    Best regards - HS

    Regarding corals

as far as i rembember wt (bible) said the globe was fully covered by water before "creation" was initiated by God. Gen. 1:9

So anything normally found under water could be found anywhere. Not because of the Noah's flood.

btw i forgot when, what "day", God created the fish

According to the Jehovah’s Witless bible. The gods (Elohim) created from the water the fish and the winged flying creatures on the fifth day, before creating simultaneously man and woman.

    *** Rbi8 Genesis 1:20-23 ***
20 And God went on to say: “Let the waters swarm forth a swarm of living souls and let flying creatures fly over the earth upon the face of the expanse of the heavens.” 21 And God proceeded to create the great sea monsters and every living soul that moves about, which the waters swarmed forth according to their kinds, and every winged flying creature according to its kind. And God got to see that [it was] good. 22 With that God blessed them, saying: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the waters in the sea basins, and let the flying creatures become many in the earth.” 23 And there came to be evening and there came to be morning, a fifth day.

But Jehovah created the flying creatures from the ground before creating a woman, but after creating man.

    *** Rbi8 Genesis 2:18-20 ***
18 And Jehovah God went on to say: “It is not good for the man to continue by himself. I am going to make a helper for him, as a complement of him.” 19 Now Jehovah God was forming from the ground every wild beast of the field and every flying creature of the heavens, and he began bringing them to the man to see what he would call each one; and whatever the man would call it, each living soul, that was its name. 20 So the man was calling the names of all the domestic animals and of the flying creatures of the heavens and of every wild beast of the field, but for man there was found no helper

My understanding is that the before plate tectonics shifted land over the poles that the water circulation would have warmed them. Also, we are actually in an ice age now - at other times the earth has been a lot warmer and there has not been the ice.

I found an article somewhere about the 'quick dried' mammoths with food in their mouth and edible meat and it was bogus - the person who wrote it was some creationist nut and the people on the expedition that discovered them (which his article was based on) refuted it. Of course, the WTS is never one to let facts get in the way of using something that may support their brand of madness.

hilary_step...good post and good point, they use whatever they find to suit their needs.

Who cares about credibility as long as it's good.
