    Hello, everyone,

Welcome to October's book club thread.

This month we are discussing Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. This book was suggested by myself. The format is open to any discussion you wish to have about the topic at hand, but if you're looking for something to stimulate some discussion you are welcome to use the questions below or come up with some of your own for others to answer.

    Possible Topics for Discussion

    1. Why does George "take so much trouble for another guy" (p. 21)?

    2. Why does George shoot Lennie?

    3. Why is the dream recited repeatedly?

    4. What does Slim mean when he says, "A guy got to sometimes" (p. 102)?

    5. Why does the book begin and end at the pond?

    6. Why does Candy feel he should have shot his dog himself?

    7. Is Curley's wife to blame for Lennie's death?

    8. Why doesn't Slim share in the other men's dreams?

    9. Why does Carlson get the last word?

    10. What is the meaning of the book's title?

    For Further Reflection

    1. Did migrant workers have any options for a better life?

    2. Did George do the right thing by shooting Lennie?

    Next Month

Next month we will be discussing The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. This selection was suggested by myself and Scully. I generally prefer fiction but this is truly just an exceptional book.

If you have any book selections you would like added to the list of books to be discussed please send me a pm.

    Last Month

Last month we discussed Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons. If you missed last month and would like to read through it or add to it the link is here:
