I was about to talk to my mom the other day about the whole CO thing,
but then I realized i have no idea if the news is out to the general witness.
Has it been announced? Are there rumors circulating?

I've read a lot of rumors about it here. So far, I'm not convinced it's absolute truth. I noted that in the October 15th WT (I think it was that issue) circuit overseers are still mentioned.
Is there hard factual evidence yet that supports the claim that COs will be discontinued?
Rumor, but with the new coordinator title....beginning to seem more credible.
BTW many (but not all) of my R&F know because I have a big mouth. But when we hosted our CO, all of us chickened out in asking since most of us presume he probably didn't know either.
The more I think about the potential CO change the more I think the current COs will be kept in the first group of Circuit Coordinators. He will be reduced to a SP more then likely but still given a sort 'in theory' position of PO of the CO BOE. This would serve to keep him occupied and his mouth shut.
I mentioned it to my in-laws. They told me I was wrong. So I would have to answer your question with, maybe. As my in-laws are idiots and still do not know the generation teaching changed in 1995.
And, if the CO discontinuation is just rumor, then we are only discrediting ourselves in the eyes of most JWs (not that we have much respect from them as it is!) Until there's more factual support for this rumor, I'm just going to sit this one out.
Isn't actually more of a name change and they will continue with many duties they already have? Wouldn't a r & f see it as 'oh how wonderful, they are making us even more equal than before. No more haughty titles like Christendom has' ? Of course it still would make the new 'coordinator' more equal than the r & f.
