Well it looks like my school couldn't remember the real words so they just made something up.

We had another one called "Knock Up Side Da Head"!

    I am serious!
We had to duck when the words "side da head" were said because thats when the other person swung a left or right that would knock you up side the head if you didn't remember to duck.

    Miss Mary Mack Mack Mack
All dressed in black, black, black
    With silver buttons, buttons, buttons
All down her back, back, back.

She asked her mother, mother, mother
    For 50 cents, cents, cents
To see the elephants, elephants, elephants
Jump over the fence, fence, fence.

They jumped so high, high, high
They reached the sky, sky, sky
And they didn't come back, back, back
'Til the 4th of July, ly, ly!

This is the version of Down, down baby that I knew:

Down, down baby, down by the rollercoaster,
Sweet, sweet baby, I'll never let you go,
Shimmy shimmy cocoa pop, shimmy shimmy rock,
    I met a girlfriend, a triscuit, she said a triscuit, a biscuit,
Ice cream, soda pop, vanilla on the top,
Ooh Chelley, walking down the street, ten times a week,
I said it, I meant it, I stole my mamma's credit,
I'm cool, I'm hot, sock me in the stomach until I forget it.

I know Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water..

Always thought that was a strange place to get a pail of water from..

Not sure if you could clap to this one anyway; you'd drop the pail..

    Sorry:-)

    Patty cake
    Patty cake
    Baker's man
    Bake me a cake
    As fast as you can.
    Roll it (pantomime rolling)
    and
    Pat it (patting)
and mark it with B (make a B in the air or on someone)
And put it in the oven for baby and me. (clapping))

Just a few more (I used to teach elementary school :o))

My boyfriend gave me an apple
My boyfriend gave me a pear
My boyfriend gave me a kick up the b**
and threw me down the stair
    He threw me over Scotland
    He threw me over France
He threw me over the football pitch
    I lost my underpants.
I gave him back the apple
I gave him back the pear
I gave him back the kick up the b**
And threw him down the stair
    I threw him over Scotland
    I threw him over France
I threw him over the football pitch
    He lost his underpants!

    Miss Suzy

    Miss Suzy had a baby.
    His name was Tiny Tim.
She put him in the bathtub
to see if he could swim.
He drank up all the water,
He ate up all the soap.
He tried to eat the bathtub,
but it wouldn't go down his throat.
    Miss Suzy called the doctor,
    Miss Suzy called the nurse,
    Miss Suzy called the lady
    with the alligator purse

    Soda Song

    Coca-cola went to town,
    Diet Pepsi knocked him down.
    Doctor Pepper fixed him up,
    now I'm drinking 7-up.
    7-up caught the flu,
    now I'm drinking Mountain Dew.
Mountain Dew fell off the mountain,
now I'm drinking from the water fountain.
    Water fountain got too hot,
Now I'm drinking plain old milk.
Milk, Milk is good for the bones.

In Anholt, a small island between Denmark and Sweden, the children sing:

    Jeck og Jill

    Vent op der hill

    Og Jell kom tombling after.

Ref B. Bryson, Made in America.

Which is quite remarkable as few understand a word of English. Their forbears learned the ditty from British soldiers during the Napoleonic wars and it has been passed from generation to generation.

    Englishman.

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be....

    here's one i remember

    see see oh Playmate
come out and play with me
    and bring your dollies three,
    climb up my apple tree,
    slide down my rainbarrel
    into my cellar door
and we'll be jolly friends forever more.

No, no, no playmate, I cannot play with you
    my dollies have the flu,
boo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo,
    ain't got no rain barrel,
    ain't got no cellar door,
but we'll be jolly friends forever more.

there's more to it but i can't remember...

    here's another

When Billy Boy was one, he learned to suck his thumb
Thumb-ioka [rhymes with tapioca], Thumb-ioka, half past one! Cross, down
When Billy Boy was two, he learned to tie his shoe
Shoe-ioka, shoe-ioka, half past two! Cross down
When Billy Boy was three, he learned to tap his knee [or whatever], Knee-ioka, knee-ioka, half past three! Cross down
[Instructions: On the word "cross" you cross your arms so your right hand goes to your left shoulder and your left hand to your right shoulder. On the word "down," you pat both knees and start the game over.]

and closer, here's some more miss susie ones, as i remember these could get a bit naughty (well, naughty for a 12 yr old hehe)
