For my dear friend, Seven of Nine, and reflecting my feelings toward this board and the friends I've had the honor to know these past few years:

    MISSION STREET

    Kieran Halpin, 1991

There used to be a holy man
    Lived down St. Marin's Walk
They say he had the answer
No one ever heard him talk

    No one ever saw him
Or the truth that he possessed
But they knew that he worked miracles
To all his name was blessed

There used to be a house that gave you
    Shelter from the cold
It always stood on Mission Street
Till the day it was sold

There used to be a river
And a boat was moored nearby
    Everyone who went there
Said the river now was dry

There used to be a river
    Going 'round Mission Street
    Justice would be done
The strong would free the weak

There used to be a river
That one day the time would come
    The son forgave his father
    The father loved his son

The son forgave his father ,,,

There used to be an avenue
    Lined with sycamore trees
    The shady walk in summer
Through fall a bed of leaves

There used to be a mountain
And a stairway to the sky
There used to be a peaceful place
    Where weary people died

There used to be a child 'round here
    A girl with golden hair
I found her in my heart
With a note that said, "I care"

There used to be a vision
    A green and pleasant land
I used to know a fairy tale
    A strong and gentle hand

There used to be a river
    Going 'round Mission Street
    Justice would be done
The strong would free the weak

There used to be a river
That one day the time would come
    The son forgave his father
    The father loved his son

The son forgave his father ,,,

There used to be a river
    Going 'round Mission Street
    Justice would be done
The strong would free the weak

There used to be a river
That one day the time would come
    The son forgave his father
    The father loved his son

The song itself is hauntingly beautiful. It was sent to me by a very good, and musically brilliant, friend. The song has meant a great deal to me over the years.
