Google have a relatively new service available called Knol. It stands for 'unit of knowledge' and is a rival to Wikipedia as a user-generated encyclopedia.

Big difference is that entries can only be changed with permission of the author(s)

And it seems that Google is giving favourable search rankings to Gnol articles.

So people - what you waiting for? Get busy adding content

I have 'plagiarised' and modified some stuff on shunning:

    http://knol.google.com/k/paul-morrison/why-jehovahs-witnesses-shun-people/290ks3g12r97j/3#view

I welcome comments and edits - I think my article is a bit weak on critical analysis of the WTS quotes for example.

Anybody else up for adding some Gnols....

    Ok just a quick update

I've had almost 900 views and a few people have left comments - couple of active JW apologists etc

If you have any comments I'd love to hear them

    WELL DONE BESTY!!

I think you have done very well, nice reasoned tone to the article and informative to any JW.I have posted a reply on there to try to get the Dubs to debate scripturally, but this may be beyond them.

Big difference indeed... and the primary reason I am skeptical that "Knol" will prove valuable.
With wikipedia, there is a built in self-correcting mechanism of free-for-all peer review...
"bringing democracy to knowledge" as Colbert said. This is obviously somewhat flawed, but at
least it is INTERESTING. And it actually seems to work quite well.

If an article in "Knol" can't be changed by consensus, how it is any different from a multi-poster blog?

Any wackjob with a computer and "credentials" can write an article and sound legit despite it being pure BS.

(Knols many alt-med articles come to mind)

ye I agree Inkling - 3 things to keep in mind (from my POV)

1 - its a new resource which we should seek to dominate with anti-WTS information

2 - I like the concept of authors 'real' identity being part of the value proposition

3 - Google seems to be promoting Knol content inside its algorithm - http://www.seobook.com/google-knol

Since I wrote this Knol about a year ago it's had over 11,000 page views and is currently getting about 100 people a week reading it.

It's also number 1 result in Google for 'Jehovah shunning' - I see that as 100 people a week that will never become a Jehovah's Witness or will think seriously about why they are a member of such a group.
