Questions on the changes?

So, I haven't attended a JW meeting in 11-12 years. What is this new light? And what did they change about the book studies?

I haven't had a debate with any of my family over anything, but I'd hate to be "caught with my pants down" on their current subjects. I've heard references to these things, but no real explanation of what it is.

The latest new light that I can recall is the change in who is the generation that will not pass away. I've been out for 20 years, so pardon me, if I'm incorrect. But I think the generation has meant several things, ie: those who were the age of reason in 1914, the annointed, wicked people, etc. I think the current understanding is that this generation is wicked people. Blondie, help me out here. I couldn't keep this bullshit straight when I was a jw, and it's much harder now.

The bookstudy change is that it will no longer be held on a seperate night but shortened and combined with the TMS. The letter from the society said it was because of gas prices, but critics suspect several other reasons such as liability for meetings held in private households, shortage of elders to conduct the study, elder burn out, possiblity of child sex abuse, etc. The price of gas does seem like a lame reason, because jws in less developed countries either pay a good portion of their salary for transporation to the meetings or have to face wildlife and the like while walking to them.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but speaking of new light, it seems many active jws are seeing the light all of the time, according to this post on the silentlambs guestbook.

The "generation" is back to those professing to be of the anointed.

The book study is now tacked onto the Theocraptic Misery "School(??)" and Circus Meeting. It will be shortened, as will the other two portions of the boasting session. My best guess as to what will go into the book study evening is an evening of field circus.

College education is now looked at as similar to shooting oneself in the head. Anyone with "privileges" and speaks positively about it or allows their children to attend will stand to lose those "privileges".

Oral sex is now looked down harshly upon. So far, all I heard is that one can lose "privileges" and be in for a stern hounding--I have not seen anything definitive that it is back to being "porneia". They could, however, lump it with "uncleanness" and get you for that.

If you can prove the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger wrong even with their Bible, you still have to obey the Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger instead of the Bible.

Attendance at the Friday session of the Grand Boasting Session is now more important than keeping your job (they showcased people that got fired from work for attending). Also, they want people to start working part time or quit their secular job and start pioneering.

There is another Waste of Paper Distribution Campaign this fall. It is a new tract that replaces an old tract, and runs 10/20-11/16. After which it is put in the lineup with the other tracts.
