This is what a young african guy said after helping out at an old age home - cooking for them. When we do things for others with no sense of payback it fills our heart with joy and the heart smiles.

Should that that not always be our motive? That we do things for others withouit wishing for a payback. Oddly enough it has been my experience that somewhere you do get paid back and often on the most pleasant and unexpected way, thus making it all the more enjoyable

It also can help you if you have some things that have you bothered or worried, to help people who have bigger problems than you do, and it puts everything in perspective. You can realize that your troubles may be worrisome now, but they can be managed.

    How sweet that is...

I believe truly the greatest gift we can give is that of ourselves.

LouBelle, this is so true. I think being appreciated is what helps us feel content. Knowing that the elderly folks appreciated his efforts made the young man feel good.

On the other hand, if you are at a well-paying job but you feel unappreciated, or like your efforts make no difference, then the job is frustrating.

I think that's is also the cause of discontent for many rank-and-file JW's who want to be appreciated. They try to be good JW's, but are frequently told that whatever they're doing, it's not enough. That's why the life of a JW can be an endless cycle of frustration. Rarely do their leaders express appreciation for humble efforts.
