If you are a non-believing relative or spouse who is hostile to their doctrine are you an apostate?

If you studied with them and rang the logical fallacy buzzer for chits and giggles to see how they would react does this make you an apostate?

if you are a born in who never got baptised does this make you an apostate?

If your ex-girlfriend who you see from time to time is an apostate and you have the goods on the jws does that make you an apostate?

If a person was never technically a JW, then they would earn the label “opposer”. Some JWs can’t make a real distinction between the two. Either category could produce an unfortunate flight-or-fight response.

"Apostate" has had its meaning transformed.

To current JWs, it means "anyone who promotes or espouses any idea even remotely critical of the governing body or its teachings".

    *** rs p. 34 Apostasy ***
Definition: Apostasy is abandoning or deserting the worship and service of God, actually a rebellion against Jehovah God. Some apostates profess to know and serve God but reject teachings or requirements set out in his Word. Others claim to believe the Bible but reject Jehovah’s organization.

This is the word from the only true Christian Organization. (pfft)

This is the definition from the 2010 "secret" elders book "Shepherd The Flock of God In Your Care"

    16. Apostasy: Apostasy is a standing away from
true worship, a falling away, defection, rebellion,
    abandonment. It includes the following:
Celebrating false religious holidays: (Ex. 32:
4-6; Jer. 7:16-19) Not all holidays directly involve
false religion and require judidal action.
Participation in interfaith activities: (2 Cor.
    6:14, 15, 17, 18) Apostate acts include bowing before
altars and images and sharing in false religious
    songs and prayers.-Rev. 18:2, 4.
    Deliberately spreading teachings contrary
to Bible truth as taught by Jehovah's Witnesses:
    (Acts 21 :21, fin.; 2 John 7, 9, 10) Any
with sincere doubts should be helped. Firm
loving counsel should be given. (2 Tim. 2:16-19,
23-26; Jude 22, 23) If one obstinately is speaking
about or deliberately spreading false teachings,
this may be or may lead to apostasy. If there is
no response after a first and a second admonition,
a judicial committee should be formed.
    -Titus 3:10,11; w8910/1 p. 19; w86 4/1 pp. 30-
    31; w86 3/15 p. 15.

Notice that according to that, one has to openly "spread" opposing ideas for it to count. From what I read on here, some congs. seem to take a harder line and seek out disbelievers who are baptized...

I always thought you had to be a baptized member who left to be considered an apostate. You mean this varies from cong to cong?!

Technically, yes, you have to have been a JW to be an "apostate".

As shown in previous posts, in practical terms, an apostate is anyone who says anything negative about the organization.

Dictionary meaning of apostate: A person who forsakes his religion.

Most Jehovah's Witnesses were of another religion before they became a JW. Each and every JW who left his previous religious affiliation to become a JW has by definition committed an apostate act. Most JWs after joining the WTBTS continue to speak critically and disparagingly of their previous religion.

In truth the WTBTS and the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses fosters, promotes and produces apostate acts and thinking among its members!
