Over at Freeminds, an article describes the 1988 release of Insight on the Scriptures.

"An attractive new Bible Dictionary has been released this year by the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society called Insight on the Scriptures, in two volumes, which is designed to replace the former Bible dictionary (1969, 1971) entitled Aid To Bible Understanding. While much of the text of this new publication has been taken verbatim from the Aid book, there are several new features to take note of: (1) larger, more readable type, (2) full color illustrations, (3) an index at the end of Vol. II, (4) "new light" embodied in the text where doctrines have been explained differently or modified, and ..."

My question is about that "new light" reference. Is that simply highlighted text, a graphic icon, or what? Does anyone have a scan of some paragraph this appears within?

It is highlighted only in the Freeminds quote you have posted, there is no highlighted new light in the Insight itself, if that is what you are asking.

Freeminds highlighted the changes to draw our attention to them. The Filthful and Disgraceful Slavebugger doesn't want anyone to notice the changes, and they have done their utmost to make things look like they merely improved things.

That phrase does not come up in the Insight book on the 2007 WT-CD. Actually it is an old phrase much like "present truth." There is a reference in the WT index to a 1995 WT where "flashes of light" is used.

    new light: w95 5/15 11
*** w95 5/15 pp. 10-11 par. 3 Flashes of Light in Apostolic Times ***Jesus Christ gave flashes of light regarding an obligation resting on all his followers. Most likely it was to the 500 disciples assembled in Galilee that he said: "Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And, look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things." (Matthew 28:19, 20; 1 Corinthians 15:6) Thereafter, all followers of Christ were to be preachers, and their preaching commission was not to be limited to "the lost sheep of the house of Israel." (Matthew 10:6) Nor were they to perform John’s baptism in symbol of repentance for forgiveness of sins. Instead, they were to baptize people "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit."

You find this used more in the 1950's with usage dropping out by 2007.

*** w59 7/15 p. 430 par. 23 How Is Your Spiritual Appetite? ***So it is good that not every Watchtower brings new light from Jehovah’s temple. We could not digest it that fast, but still there is food enough in every Watchtower to keep us well fed and alive spiritually.
*** w53 7/1 p. 416 Spiritual Blessings at International Assemblies ***Today, we still feast spiritually at assemblies. As in the past the righteous acts of Jehovah are rehearsed. People of good will learn that he is a tender God, long-suffering and affectionate. New light and thoughts are presented, and a more appreciative and broader understanding of Jehovah’s organization in action is received.
*** w60 7/15 p. 441 par. 8 Staying Awake with the "Faithful and Discreet Slave" ***So in these latter days of fulfillment a periodic survey of every three years shows a steady increasing in the spiritual depth and clarity of the published waters of truth by the Watch Tower Society. The trickle published in 1919 was "ankle" deep, so to speak, by 1922, then an increased depth of spirituality and vision was had by 1925, followed by the great flood of new light published by 1928, to be capped by 1931 with the overwhelming flow of Biblical enlightenment.

Thanks Hippie and Wiz for checking that for me in your copies. I'm at the disadvantage of only having a copy of its successor, the Aid book.

Thanks, Blondie, for your CD data.
