In a talk by Leon Weaver in 2006 he listed the number of publisher currently serving in the United States as 1,082,000. Of these, 251,000 were serving in Spanish language congregations. This is approx 25%! According to a US Census 2005 Community survey only 14.5% of US citizens were identified as Latino or Hispanic.

    Overrepresented?

PM me if you would like a copy of the talk by Leon Weaver.

You're right, this is not very surprising -- what with all the growth of Spanish-speaking congregations everywhere. Many of these Spanish-speaking JW's are from predominantly Catholic lands, and backsliding Catholics have long been a major target audience of the Watchtower Society.

As part of a Brooklyn Bethel tour I took about 10 years ago, they had a map showing all the foreign-language congregations of JW's in the USA. The guide explained that they didn't represent Spanish-language congregations on the map, because the Society didn't consider Spanish to be a foreign language in the USA any more.
