CAPTAIN Austin Chewe's FDD presidential candidature should be scrutinised, opposition Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) head of secretariat Edith Nawakwi has said.

And addressing party officials drawn from all districts in Eastern Province in Chipata on Friday, Nawakwi said she also had impecable information that the ruling MMD wanted to destabilise FDD with the sponsorship of candidates to contest for certain positions.

"I have received impeccable information that Chiluba and his club are funding some of the people in the party. I think that when we have a national agenda, we need to work collectively," Nawakwi said. "This is not just a party affair, its not a picnic. Be careful.

You must exercise your vote wisely." Nawakwi said members of the dissolved UFDD, who are the sponsors of Capt. Chewe, only wanted to ride on the support of FDD. "We didn't join them," Nawakwi said. "They should respect the founder members."

Nawakwi warned Capt. Chewe to respect founding FDD members. "We are entitled to kick him out," Nawakwi warned. Nawakwi said Capt. Chewe's comments that some FDD members vying for positions should not claim to have experience as they had contributed to the down fall of the economy, were unfounded.

"He new that we were MMD members. Why did he join our party?" Nawakwi said.

"Therefore he is not entitled to start abusing our generosity." Nawakwi asked delegates from Eastern Province to be wary of people that only want to destabilise the party.

She said even during the third term debate, Capt. Chewe never said anything on the matter. On Levy Mwanawasa, Nawakwi wondered how he would compromise the church doctrines with that of the state. "How is he going to take oath of office?" she asked.

Nawakwi said members of the Jehovah's witness faith did not believe in the government of the earth. "He can't wear any uniform because he will be expected to take salute," she said.

Nawakwi said Mwanawasa's allegiance is always to President Chiluba, citing his statement in Kitwe where he said him and his family would forever remain grateful to President Chiluba.

"Mwanawasa ni Chikobadi, dancer ni Chiluba (Mwanawasa is a mask, the dancer is Chiluba)," she said. And on the arrest of a suspect who allegedly confessed to have killed Ronald Penza and Paul Tembo, Nawakwi the same person confessed to have spied on Dean Mung'omba.

She said the man was released from jail in 1998 and was told he would be given a job to do. Nawakwi said the man confessed to her that he was taken to late Ronald Penza's house where he shot him.

"He said I killed Penza," she said. Nawakwi said she even has pictures of police officers who were involved in the killings. "This country has been turned into a den of criminals," she said.

Nawakwi also accused President Chiluba of being an incompetent commander-in-chief. Reacting to President Chiluba's donation of an ambulance to Mushili Commando Unit last week, Nawakwi said she had never seen a commander-in-chief that donates to his own forces. "There is no commander-in-chief who donates to his own forces. He is an incompetent commander. Has he become a transport officer?" Nawakwi asked.

"Chiluba, stop this madness and nonsense." Nawakwi said she now understands President Chiluba's behaviour because she found out from colleagues that used to be with him in the National Union of Building, Engineering and General Workers' Union. "I now understand what type of person he is. How can a commander-in-chief parade himself as donating a bus to his own forces?" Nawakwi said.

"Ali pena (Is he mad)? His level is just that." Nawakwi said President Chiluba had turned the national treasury into his own personal treasury.
