There's an old elder that lives close by, and he is in his mid 70's and has a hard time walking because of his knees and weight. The last time I talked to him a few years ago, he admitted that he was depressed. A man living across the street, studying with the JW's and occasionally goes to meetings, pointed out to me how old, tired and discouraged many look at the hall. He was talking about that elder in particular.
That elder goes to every darn meeting. He must think that he isn't saved yet and must do more... That kind of mentality is what pushes JW's to do more and more, and all the meetings and field service they did in the past is worthless, unless they keep on doing it.
The joy they should feel because Jesus gave his life for them, is replaced by fear that maybe they aren't doing enough.
