At age 41 (tomorrow Dec 2) I am neither an optimist, nor am I a pessimist. I consider myself a realist. Years ago I took a famous saying:

"An optimist says: 'the glass is half full'. A pessimist says: 'the glass is half empty.'"

    and added my own twist:

"A realist says: 'I am just damn glad to have a glass of water.'"

Hope it gives you a smile today.

    It isn't give me $500,000.

Optimism: systematic tendency to expect the best possible outcomes.
Realism: systematic tendency expect the most likely outcomes.
Pessimism: systematic tendency to expect worst possible outcomes.

People call me a pessimist only when the most likely outcome is bleak and I point it out to them in hope that they help change it for the better.

Believe me I have been called an optimist too! I think nuclear arms will be dismantled some day mainly do to the fact the are expensive and pointless most people don't see it that way though and call me optimistic on that.
