Hi, I'm studying for my last exam! I'm majoring in Management and studying Organisational Behaviour this semester and this is what they have to say about groupthink -

    Groupthink

The tendency to conform because members are unwilling to criticise others’ ideas and suggestions

A potential barrier to effective decision-making and with symptoms such as:

    • Illusions of group invulnerability

    • Rationalising unpleasant data

    • Belief in inherent group morality

    • Negative stereotyping of outsiders

    • Applying pressure to deviants

    • Self-censorship by members

    • Illusions of unanimity

    • Mind guarding

Remind us of anybody we know?

Yea it does, and it's dangerous as hell... among other groups we all know, it led to the holocaust also

I remember seeing a show a few years back where they analyzed group think in politics. They stuck some people in a room and gave them some hot button political issues to draw a consensus on.

Those of the group who had the most dominant personalities ended up pushing the entire group into their method of belief.

The only exception to this was one lady who would not go along with everybody else in regards to same sex marriage. Her son was gay and she did not feel that it was wrong.

It was a pretty interesting segment. I think it was on ABC news. It would be neat to see it again.
