Time and unforeseen occurance

  I have been to my 2nd JW funeral in as many weeks. The one yesterday was because of a tragic accident.

  So during the week since the accident, I have heard the "time and unforeseen occurrance" scripture quoted countless times in conversations I have had with JW's about the situation. It was of course used at the memorial as well.

  It struck me hearing it this time that they completely ignore the first word, "time". You never hear that scripture used just because a person got old and died, but I think it plainly applies to that. It's one scripture regarding death that the JW's like to use that I agree wholeheartedly agree with.

  I'm sorry that you lost two acquaintances. Many of my JW friends are elderly and I hate what's soon to befall them. I also don't look forward to any necessity of going back to the KH. If non-Witnesses have the respect and fortitude to attend, however, I guess I should too.

  When the "time" comes ...

  I never thought of it that way, but you are right. The scripture is saying we can't escape the ravages of time. Good thought.

  I am sorry you lost loved ones. It was nice of you to attend the funerals.

  You can feel sorry for me, but only because I had to sit through 2 proselytizing efforts.

  That last one was a guy who had been around in the same are for 40 years, prominent in the org. His memorial was unlike any I had seen. It was not held in the KH as they didn't feel there would be enough room, and they were right. I felt like I was at a small convention being there. But they did something I have never seen before, they set up a sign language area. Now there were 3 people taking advantage of it, but they did something I have never seen before. They sang the old favorite funeral talk tear jerker # 4, and the sign language people were singing with their hands. And they were not in the back somewhere, they were seated where most of the people in the place couldn't help but see them. It was rather disconcerting.

  I personally thought it was out of place for a memorial. But then again, I think this guy would have wanted his final talk to be a mini convention. He got it.
