The New Service Year

Well, September is well under way. With it, the new service year for the Witlesses. They always urge the members to kick off the new service year with a bang. Vacations have wound down, the weather is turning cooler, and it is time for the pioneers to start working super-hard to make time for the year.

But is this truly the case? First of all, children are going back to school (many places have long started). And that means going back to being tired every Friday morning (when unit tests are traditionally given) because they were up way past their bedtimes for the Theocraptic Misery "School(??)". And that means doing poorly once again. Are these kids supposed to start pioneering and going out in field misery every weekend, all weekend?

The Tower assumes that the weather is cooling down. Boy, had they better wake up! Heat waves are not uncommon in September. The Northeast is sweltering this weekend, and many places in the South don't even begin to cool down for another month or more. Try telling people in Florida that they should start picking up activity because it is cooling down! It is the hottest time of the year there, largely because of the water. And it is muggy.

The Tower also doesn't allow that people need to start preparing for winter now. Driveways need to be sealed now, when the temperature is moderate. Roofs need to be inspected and if any are leaking now, they have to be fixed now before ice dams and heavy rains set in. Gutters need to be kept clear of debris now, with leaves starting to fall in higher elevations and working their way down to the lower latitudes. Lawns and gardens need to be put down for the season (farther south, they can be let go another month or two, but in the New York City area and New England, September is typically the month to start preparing. Chores like these cannot be neglected for a month...or two...or three...so the people can pioneer and then wait until it's too cold or the lawn is infested with critters, and it's too late. Nor can the roof be allowed to leak going into winter.

And what happens if vacations have not yet wound down? True, children are going back to school (and need to pay attention to their new classes, not the field misery or the Theocraptic Misery "School(??)".) But singles and those who have retired may be extending vacations into the month; some may plan vacations around the slow period after Labor Day and before Columbus Day. Is there any allowance for those?

Pioneer because the new service year is here. Then pioneer for the holiday season. Then, once the weather warms up, pioneer again. What if the house rots because the paint is 50 years past needing replacement or the roof has been leaking for 40 years? So what. So what if the children flunk their classes because they are too exhausted from the field circus and the Theocraptic Misery "School(??)"? It will give the Tower more membership through your initiatory fraud on behalf of the Puketower Society. Your legitimate needs come second to the Tower's selfish wants. Oh yes, we need to send Brother Hounder to your house because it needs painting; just don't take any time out of service to tend to it or Brother Hounder will hound you for stealing the time from Jehovah to paint.

I remember those days ... when it was actually important to me. Sisters would make new clothes, buy new shoes, pick out new service bags ... yuck!

The new service year is here, so start going out in service more lying about how much time you have.
