...from a distance.
I was driving to the auto parts store, and went by a vacant lot where he was in his shredder, mowing the grass. He was stopped, talking to the other workers.
I went and bought a bulb for the rear tail light at the parts store, installed it right there in the parking lot, all the while trying to decide if I should stop and speak to him on the way home.
On the way home, I again passed him, and it looked like they were taking a break after a long day of lot mowing. I chickened out. I didn't stop.
Background: My ex-father-in-law is NOT a JW - although his wife, and kids are JWs (as was my ex-wife).
I actually got along pretty well with him when I was married to the first wifey... he's a pretty decent person.
I'm just not sure how he would react to me walking up and saying 'hello'. After all... I divorced his daughter... and probably turned her life upside down for a bit.
I also wasn't sure what I would say - if I did stop. 'Hey, how's it going Charles?'
Anyway... I've thought about him - and been wondering how he has been. It was good to see him - and to see that he is still out and about - still mowing vacant lots - something that he enjoys (and earns pretty good money at too).
Thanks for the 'ear'...
Regards,
Jim TX

Jim -since you two got along before, I bet he would have enjoyed a little chat with you. Maybe it'd have been a bit awkward at first, but if you wanted to you probably could have said hey.

I believe you never regret saying hello or doing something nice for someone, regardless of their reaction. You may, however, regret not doing so. You never know what tomorrow may bring...
