vm44,its good to know that an organisation which says all kind of things are of pagan origin did itsel use pagan symbols.
Information like this is hidden from most JW's. But there's other things (supposedly based in paganism) the Watchtower Society cannot hide, like the old "cross and crown" symbol they used to use on magazine covers, and the fact that they celebrated Christmas at Bethel into the 1920's.
But the JW's would say "That's when the organization had old light. We have become a cleansed / refined organization as time has passed."
But this type of information may be of interest to acquaintances and relatives of JW's and those who the JW's are trying to convert.
Lol,
This reminds me of the time that I learned wedding rings were pagan. I was so afraid of anything pagan, I didn't want to wear that ring.
I got counseled for it (even though some "brothers" had said they had come to the same conclusion and had quit wearing theirs and WERE NOT counseled for it).
Hmmm-funny, about three years later, it was discovered one of the "brothers" who refused to wear his ring supposedly because it was a pagan symbol was actually having an affair with one of his coworkers.
And wouldn't ya just know it-his wife was blamed for not being submissive enough in their marriage. But at least she got her scriptural out to divorce the guy. She had been putting up with his bad behavior for years.
Moral of the story: The rules on pagan symbols are selectively applied, and even in "matters of conscience" you MUST have permission from the higher ups.
