Here in the US it's very common to have apostates™ picketing the conventions. I recently attended in Long Beach, CA and there were two apostates™ there. I made it a point to introduce myself to them and give them some encouragement.

I had to wait until my wife was out of site as she is a believing J-dub and I didn't want to give any more ammo for her and my family to use against me.
I made the conversation with them very brief for the above reason. I simply introduced myself, encouraged them to "keep up the good work and that I have my entire family trapped in this cult". They thanked me, and I then made my exit. The two apostates™ were in a well exposed area isolated from the j-dubs so I don't recall seeing any j-dubs react to my actions. Even if any of the j-dubs saw what I did,, very few of them knew me at this particular convention so I wasn't worried.
