I drove the ball well on #2, but my drive came up a few yards short of my intention, leaving me 165 yards to the pin.
My lie was a bit downhill, and in the first cut of rough, so I selected one club longer than the distance from a tight-lie. My 5 iron in hand, I struck the ball. The elevation was good, the angle was right, a slight high fade, my prefered approach to the green. The ball landed 5 feet short of the green on the approach apron, and began it's journey toward the pin. I expected another of those 'near misses', in which the ball trickles past the pin and onto the back of the green.
This one fell. It was high-fives all around. My first eagle. The day was perfect no matter what happened on the next 16 holes.
