Navy Being Sued On Behalf Of Marine Mammals . . . what do you think?

Every time I walk on the beach, I think of all the unseen life in the ocean - all of the marine mammals and exotic fishes I'll never get to see - except in photos or in an aquarium - and I wonder about the sensibilities and sensitivities of these poor whales and dolphins that have been beaching themselves - one or two in my own area. I've heard that a number of the beaching problems are caused by naval sonar:

Achitoff said it was "very surprising" that the Navy plans 12 anti-submarine warfare exercises in 2007 and 2008

I think it's good someone is out there and aware of what is going on and making efforts to protect these animals. I dont think the Navy needs sonar when they can use a periscope to shoot a couple hundred torpedoes and some cruise missles into some old rusted out ships as target practice.

I hope the Marine Mammals have a damn good attorney and unlimited resources to go up against the US Navy / Government.

The Navy has been restricting it use of sonar in peacetime for a number of years because of this. I don't know what these people expect to accomplish, beyond grabbing headlines.
