I owe taxes from last year and owe some more for this year. I didn't even work a full year! Dang! I can't catch a break! They stopped paying me disability through my job that I paid for. They paid the short-term, but refused to pay the long-term.

Anybody break even on the income taxes?

I claim zero for myself and zero dependants on my W4. A little extra is taken from my pay check each week, but I always get a refund.

For ten years working at a small firm I had an additional ten dollars taken out. End of year result, bigger refund. People thought I was nuts.

I usually get about $1,000+ back each year......I used to get more until we had to start paying "extra" for OHIP, so that's another $450.00 extra I've gotta pay now. :-(

I guess that I'd better start claiming zero. Although, I had a child under 18 years of age, I still wasn't able to get the child tax credit.

MsMcDukett, you may have to go to your human resources department or payroll dept. to change your W4. Don't be fooled by them or what the FORM say's. Put a zero in the space where it asks if you are claiming yourself. It is allowed and a little extra is taken from your paycheck. Even when I had five children I claimed zero for myself.

I found the difference to be a refund of a few hundred as opposed to paying in. A little each week for me was easier than a lot all at once.

When you file taxes at the end of the year, YES, claim yourself.

I always look at it like this, the Govt wants a certain amount of money based on our TOTAL income. If you underpay throughout the year, you have to pay in. If you overpay, we get to go out to dinner and celebrate usually before the end of April.
